A fire broke out at Lincoln Downs Race Track in Springfield, a day before the opening racing season, killing in 15 horses

The suspected cause of the fire is arson. The arson squad arrived at the scene, shortly after the fire.

“ The fire exploded near the center of the barn. Flames were shooting out of the building when we got here. The fire is definitely suspicious”, Fire Chief, Bernard Penny said.

13 thoroughbred and two saddle horses were killed in the fire. Ten horses were able to escape including two horses that stampeded through the barn doors, while their backs were on fire! The death of the horses made many people upset, involved in horse racing.

“These are my friends,” he said pointing to the surviving horses. “ I love horses more than I do people. I feel like I want to cry”, A jockey from Miami, Florida, said.
